The Leshy
[190 x 110 x 75cm. wood, ceramic piece, movement activated light and sound]
The Leshy is one of many names given to the pagan Slavic guardian deity of the forest, a deity or spirit common to nearly all cultures around the world. Leshy will punish those who do not sufficiently respect, or who misuse its resources – hampering, frightening, causing injury to, kidnapping, or even killing the offenders. Here, in ghostly form, he accuses we humankind for our shamefully poor treatment of forests and their inhabitants.
