Ogham's Sword

Oghams sword2[1494].jpg

Ogham’s Sword speaks of the relationship between technology, history, and biodiversity – in a dynamic balance. The inscription on the sword is in the ancient Ogham alphabet, wherein each character represents a different species of tree. It reads ‘‘’Biodiversity” glows in the light of its own goodness’ - a critical comment on the underlying tenet of virtually all conservation science and practice. The feathers holding it up are from a great pied hornbill (Buceros bicornis) and a scarlet macaw (Ara macao) – both of significant ecological and cultural significance, and whose populations are in decline.
